Liga MB Round 12: Aguila edge Santa Tecla by two points

Coincidentally all hosts won their games. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 12 in the Liga MB took place in San Miguel. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 3rd ranked Santa Tecla (6-3) to fifth ranked Aguila (6-4) 78-76 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Santa Tecla. The best player for the winners was naturalized Canadian Jose Araujo (187-1986, college: UNBC, agency: Interperformances) who scored 25 points and 4 steals. Guard Bryan Garcia (168-1997) chipped in 14 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was Dominican guard Jose Liriano (189-1998) who recorded a double-double by scoring 26 points and 16 rebounds. Aguila have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 6-4 record. Defending champion Santa Tecla keeps the third place with three games lost. They share the position with Brujos. Aguila will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Santa Tecla will play against Santiagueno and is hoping to win this game.
Leader San Salvador delivered the ninth victory. This time they beat 11th ranked Cojute (1-8) 97-80. It was a good game for American center Marc Montavious (206-1990, college: Georgetown, KY) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 20 rebounds and 6 assists. Cristian Joan Duran contributed with 12 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. American swingman Andravious Smith (196-1995, college: Tougaloo) replied with a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds for Cojute. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. San Salvador (9-1) have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Cojute lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with eight games lost. San Salvador will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Cojute will play on the road against the league's second-placed Metapan (#2) to get more than just one victory in their record.

In the last game of round 12 Nejapa was defeated by Santiagueno in a road game 95-80.



San Salvador - Cojute 97-80

Leader San Salvador delivered the ninth victory. This time they beat 11th ranked Cojute (1-8) 97-80. They outrebounded Cojute 60-33 including a 23-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. San Salvador players were unselfish on offense dishing 32 assists. It was a good game for American center Marc Montavious (206-1990, college: Georgetown, KY) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 20 rebounds and 6 assists. Dominican forward Cristian Joan Duran (201-1996, college: Tenn Tech) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Five San Salvador players scored in double figures. American swingman Andravious Smith (196-1995, college: Tougaloo) replied with a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds and point guard Ronald Melendez (178-1984) added 6 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists in the effort for Cojute. Santiagueno - Nejapa 95-80

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 8th ranked Nejapa (2-6) was defeated on the road by ninth ranked Santiagueno (3-6) 95-80. Santiagueno forced 21 Nejapa turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. It was a good game for American-Colombian center Freddy Asprilla (206-1988, college: Canisius) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 29 rebounds. Cuban guard Pedro Roque (187-1995) contributed with 29 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals for the winners. American Marcus Faison (196-1994, college: Salem St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 24 rebounds and 5 assists and his fellow American import forward Telvin Gabriel (198-1994, college: Lander) added 25 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Nejapa. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Santiagueno moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Santa Ana. Nejapa lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth position with six games lost. Santiagueno will play against higher ranked Santa Tecla (#3) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Nejapa will play against Santa Ana (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
